Our resident Propspeed guru Mark Billingsley was asked to oversee the application and specify the quantity of product needed. On March 14, Titan, a 258-foot motor yacht, had Propspeed applied to her running gear. Tampa- based coatings contractor Tony Stokes was in charge of prepping and coating Titan’s bottom and applying Propspeed to the mains, shafts and thruster propeller. Stokes specializes in commercial marine projects and now large motor yachts.

Our resident Propspeed guru Mark Billingsley was asked to oversee the application and specify the quantity of product needed. It took five applicators 8.5 hours to coat the mains (two five-bladed propellers, each six feet in diameter), two shafts (each seven inches in diameter and 14 feet long), a thruster (four-bladed and five feet in diameter) and the thruster tunnel wearing ring (18 inches wide and 15.7 feet long). Coating all this running gear was certainly a big job for the team, but the captain will see substantial benefits at the next haul-out. Total Propspeed product used: six one-liter kits, eight cans of Etch Primer and three bottles of the Propprep solution.

The application was performed at International Ship Repair & Marine Services, Inc. in Tampa, Florida. The city of Tampa lies along Florida's world-famous Gulf Coast, an ideal location for a large-scale shipyard. International Ship Repair began repairing oceangoing vessels in 1973 and soon developed a worldwide reputation for prompt, efficient and high-quality service. The facility boasts a 5,000-square-foot machine shop with a partially covered fabrication area and offers an array of services and features, including a Panamax-size dry dock, topside repairs, piping, propellers and more.

Titan was built in Germany by Abeking & Rasmussen at their Lemwerder shipyard and delivered to her owners in 2010. The luxury motor yacht is designed to comfortably accommodate up to 14 overnight guests plus a crew of 19. With a maximum speed of 16.5 knots, she sports a gray steel hull with contrasting aluminum superstructure, painted white.
